Teeth problems are very common in our pets and can cause them to be really painful and unhappy without them always showing us many outward signs. We are very proud of the dentistry we provide for our patients at Temple End. Kezia Eves, one of the partners at Temple End, has a post-graduate certificate in veterinary dentistry and leads the team to very high standards from our bespoke dentistry suite in the Stokenchurch hospital. She has long been passionate about improving the health of pets’ teeth and continues to teach other vets to improve their skills.

Dentals

All our dentals are performed under general anaesthetic and our patients are constantly monitored by our superb team of qualified nurses, several of whom have studied for advanced certificates in anaesthesia and pain management. We take x-rays of all the teeth so that we can have a clear idea of which are diseased and what needs to be done. It is not always possible to know what is going on ‘below the surface’ until we have taken these x-rays and we think it is vital to have this information to make the right decision for each individual tooth.

Tooth removal

The most common procedure for a damaged tooth is to remove it. We are able to ‘surgically extract’ teeth where appropriate by carefully raising a flap of gum, gently burring away some of the bone underneath and removing the tooth ‘sideways’. The flap of gum is then sutured back into place. This is often less traumatic than more old-fashioned methods.

Advanced Techniques

Kezia has experience in a variety of other, more advanced, techniques, many of which mean we are able to save teeth which would otherwise be extracted. For example, Guided Tissue Regeneration (GTR) allows an unhealthy, damaged tooth to be restored to health without needing to be removed, and Vital Pulp Therapy (VPT) allows Kezia to open up the pulp cavity of a tooth, remove some of the pulp and then seal off the tooth to allow it to remain in the mouth to do its job. She also can reshape teeth (odontoplasty) if they are impinging on other tissues in the mouth.
